Registry of Full Contact Fighters for
the British Chinese Kuoshu Martial Arts Team Selection
Monday 3 June, 2002
As the
quality of contestants taking part in martial arts events continue to improve,
a ranking system is becoming a necessity. In the interest of a fair match,
where one contestant is not completely overwhelmed by the other, it is becoming
increasingly apparent that there is a need to match not only by weight but also
by experience. Certainly, contestants may want to try out for the National
Team, but to avoid contestants being mismatched their sparring pedigree should
also be taken into account.
The British
Chinese Kuoshu Federation (BCKF) in association with the Chinese Kuoshu
Institute (CKI) is currently in the process of setting up a registry of full
contact fighters, who participate in Chinese martial arts tournaments within
the
United Kingdom, as part of their programme of
work to establish a ranking system. The BCKF will work with other full contact
martial arts events organisers to establish a points system for each event and
the associated rankings for martial artists. The aim is to develop undisputed
Champions in Chinese martial arts full contact to assist with the selection for
representation abroad.
The
current proposal being considered will rate contestants into four categories.
The rating will be dependent on the number of wins achieved by a contestant in
the BCKF sparring year; 1 January to 1 December. Any events taking place from 2
to 31 December will count towards the following years achievement for contests
based on a ‘knock out’ system; the wins achieved up to the final will be
counted on a cumulative basis. A win will count as three points towards the
yearly ranking score. Please note that only contests recognised by the BCKF,
BSCA, CKI or BCCMA are eligible for assessment.
